OVERCOMING THE WATER CRISIS IN UZBEKISTAN: THE ROLE OF CLOSED IRRIGATION NETWORKS

Abstract

A closed irrigation network
consists of a system of pipelines designed to
transport water from the source to fields with
minimal losses. Unlike open channels, closed
irrigation networks ensure more efficient use
of water resources by reducing evaporation
and infiltration losses. In Uzbekistan, where
water scarcity is a significant issue, the
implementation of closed irrigation networks
could be a key solution. This study examines
the advantages of closed irrigation networks,
examples of their successful implementation
in other countries, and recommendations for
their adoption in Uzbekistan
